Functional Medicine

If you have persistent symptoms but still do not understand why you feel unwell, functional medicine offers a more comprehensive way to investigate your health.

At Integrative Wellness Center of Jacksonville, we use your health history, symptoms, lifestyle, conventional laboratory work, and specialized functional testing to look for potential factors contributing to your concerns.

Instead of focusing only on managing individual symptoms, we look at how your digestive health, hormones, immune system, metabolism, nutrition, stress response, and environment may be connected.

Why We Use Functional Testing

Symptoms alone do not always tell us the complete story.
Functional testing can provide additional information about areas such as digestive health, hormones, nutrient metabolism, immune reactivity, detoxification, and environmental exposures.
Certain tests are required within our programs because they allow us to create a more informed and individualized plan. Without appropriate testing, we may only be making assumptions about what your body needs.
Your provider will help determine which testing options are most relevant based on your health history, symptoms, goals

You Deserve More Than a Quick Consultation

Many people come to us after being told their laboratory results are “normal,” even though they continue to experience fatigue, bloating, digestive changes, hormonal symptoms, inflammation, headaches, anxiety, difficulty losing weight, or other persistent concerns.

Functional medicine allows us to look at a broader picture.

We take time to understand:

  • When your symptoms began

  • What may have contributed to their development

  • How your symptoms may be connected

  • Your nutrition, lifestyle, stress, sleep, and environmental exposures

  • Findings from conventional and functional laboratory testing

  • What areas should be addressed first

Our goal is not to chase every symptom separately. It is to identify patterns, investigate potential underlying contributors, and create a structured path forward.

What Is Functional Medicine?

Functional medicine is a personalized, systems-based approach to health. It looks at how the body’s different systems interact rather than viewing each symptom in isolation.

For example, digestive symptoms may be connected to nutrient absorption, immune activation, inflammation, hormone metabolism, blood-sugar regulation, or environmental exposures.

Functional medicine asks a different set of questions:

  • What may be contributing to these symptoms?

  • Why did they begin when they did?

  • Which systems appear to need the most support?

  • What testing would provide meaningful information?

  • What should we prioritize first?

  • How is the patient responding to the plan?

The objective is not simply to collect more laboratory results. Testing is used strategically when it can help guide clinical decisions and personalize your care.

Why We Work Through Packages

Functional medicine is rarely a one-appointment process.

Many of the patients who seek functional care have experienced symptoms for months or years. Their health concerns may involve several interconnected areas, and meaningful change requires time, consistency, reassessment, and an active partnership.

Our programs give us enough time to:

  • Review your complete health history

  • Select appropriate functional testing

  • Interpret your results in the context of your symptoms

  • Establish priorities rather than addressing everything at once

  • Create a personalized nutrition, lifestyle, and supplement plan

  • Evaluate your response

  • Adjust your plan as your health changes

  • Provide accountability and ongoing support

A test result is only one piece of information. The most important work happens when we use those findings to create a plan, monitor your progress, and make thoughtful adjustments.

For that reason, we do not offer functional medicine as a single consultation with no continued support.

A Partnership in Your Health

Functional medicine is collaborative.

Your provider brings clinical knowledge, testing, interpretation, and a structured plan. You bring your experiences, goals, questions, and daily participation.

Together, we evaluate what is working, what is not working, and what needs to change. Your plan may evolve as symptoms improve, new information becomes available, or your priorities change.

We are here to guide you—not simply hand you a test result or a long list of supplements.

Focused Functional Health Package

For individuals with one clear area they want to investigate more deeply

The Focused Functional Health Package is designed for individuals who already have a specific area of concern they want addressed through functional testing and personalized support.

For example, you may know that you have been exposed to mold and want to understand how that exposure may be affecting your health. You may have chronic gastrointestinal concerns and want a deeper evaluation of your digestive health. You may also have a specific hormonal, metabolic, food-reactivity, histamine, or environmental concern that requires a more focused investigation.

Although this package centers on one primary area, we still look at your health as a whole. Your symptoms, medical history, lifestyle, environmental exposures, previous laboratory results, and other potential contributing factors are considered together.

This Package May Be Right for You If:

  • You have known or suspected mold exposure

  • You experience chronic bloating, constipation, diarrhea, reflux, or other gastrointestinal concerns

  • You want a comprehensive evaluation of your digestive health

  • You have a specific hormonal or menstrual concern

  • You want to investigate possible food reactivities or histamine-related concerns

  • You have a specific environmental exposure you want evaluated

  • You have previous laboratory results but need help understanding the complete picture

  • You have one primary area you want to investigate through functional testing

  • You want continued guidance after receiving your test results

What’s Included

Comprehensive Initial Consultation

Your care begins with an in-depth, one-on-one consultation. This allows us to understand your health history, identify your priorities, review previous findings, and determine the most appropriate testing strategy.

During your initial consultation, we will review:

  • Your primary health concern

  • When your symptoms began and how they have changed

  • Known or suspected environmental exposures

  • Digestive, hormonal, immune, metabolic, and neurological symptoms

  • Medical and family history

  • Nutrition, sleep, stress, and lifestyle

  • Current medications and supplements

  • Previously completed bloodwork and functional testing

  • Treatments, supplements, or protocols you have already tried

  • Your short- and long-term health goals

Please provide copies of previous laboratory results before your consultation whenever possible. Reviewing your existing testing helps us avoid unnecessary duplication and identify patterns that may have been overlooked.

One Functional Test

Your provider will help select the functional test most appropriate for your primary area of concern.

Testing options may include:

  • GI-MAP for chronic digestive and gastrointestinal concerns

  • Mycotoxin testing for known or suspected mold exposure

  • DUTCH testing for hormone-related concerns

  • IgG food-reactivity with histamine-clearance testing

  • Organic Acids Testing

  • Environmental toxin testing

  • Conventional or specialty bloodwork

Testing is selected based on your symptoms, history, previous results, medications, goals, and clinical needs. Not every test is appropriate for every individual.

Dedicated Test-Review and Planning Session

Once your test results are available, you will have a dedicated one-on-one appointment with your provider to review them in detail.

During this session, we will discuss:

  • What your functional test evaluated

  • What was identified in your results

  • Which findings appear most relevant

  • How the findings may relate to your symptoms and health history

  • How your new results compare with previous laboratory findings

  • What we recommend prioritizing first

  • Whether additional testing or medical evaluation should be considered

  • What your personalized plan will look like

You will have time to ask questions and understand the reasoning behind your recommendations. By the end of the session, you will have a clear plan for moving forward.

Personalized Functional Health Plan

Following your test-review session, you will receive an individualized health plan based on your results, symptoms, history, and goals.

Your personalized recommendations may include:

  • Nutrition  guidance

  • Digestive and gastrointestinal support

  • Environmental exposure-reduction strategies

  • Lifestyle and sleep support

  • Stress and nervous-system regulation

  • Personalized supplement recommendations

  • Hormone, metabolic, or immune support

  • Referrals or coordination with other healthcare providers when appropriate

Recommendations are introduced in a thoughtful and manageable order based on your priorities, needs, and tolerance.

Three Additional Follow-Up Appointments

Functional health requires more than receiving a laboratory report. The most important work happens when we begin implementing your plan, evaluate how your body responds, and make adjustments over time.

In addition to your dedicated test-review session, this package includes three follow-up appointments.

Your follow-up appointments allow us to:

  • Evaluate your response to the plan

  • Review changes in your symptoms

  • Address questions or challenges

  • Adjust nutrition, lifestyle, or supplement recommendations

  • Introduce recommendations in manageable phases

  • Determine whether additional testing or referrals are needed

  • Develop an appropriate long-term health strategy

Multi-System Functional Health Package

For individuals with multiple concerns that may be connected

The Multi-System Functional Health Package is designed for individuals whose health concerns involve more than one area of the body.

You may experience chronic digestive symptoms along with hormonal concerns, fatigue, inflammation, food reactions, blood-sugar changes, or immune-related symptoms. You may also have a history of mold or environmental exposure in addition to gastrointestinal or metabolic concerns.

Rather than evaluating each symptom separately, this package allows us to investigate how two different areas of your health may be connected.

Your symptoms, medical history, lifestyle, environmental exposures, previous laboratory results, and treatments you have already tried are reviewed together.

This Package May Be Right for You If:

  • You have multiple symptoms that appear to be connected

  • You have chronic digestive symptoms along with hormone-related concerns

  • You experience digestive issues with fatigue, brain fog, or inflammation

  • You have food-related or histamine-related symptoms along with gastrointestinal concerns

  • You have PCOS, menstrual irregularities, or metabolic concerns

  • You have known or suspected mold exposure with additional chronic symptoms

  • You have symptoms involving both your digestive and immune systems

  • You have received partial answers from previous testing but still do not understand the complete picture

  • You have tried several approaches without lasting improvement

  • You need more than one type of functional test to investigate your concerns

  • You want continued support while implementing and adjusting your plan

What’s Included

Comprehensive Initial Consultation

Your care begins with an in-depth, one-on-one consultation. This allows us to understand your health history, identify connections between your concerns, review previous findings, and determine the most appropriate testing strategy.

During your initial consultation, we will review:

  • Your primary and secondary health concerns

  • When your symptoms began and how they have changed

  • How your different symptoms may be connected

  • Known or suspected environmental exposures

  • Digestive, hormonal, immune, metabolic, and neurological symptoms

  • Medical and family history

  • Nutrition, sleep, stress, and lifestyle

  • Current medications and supplements

  • Previously completed bloodwork and functional testing

  • Treatments, supplements, or protocols you have already tried

  • Your short- and long-term health goals

Please provide copies of previous laboratory results before your consultation whenever possible. Reviewing your existing testing helps us avoid unnecessary duplication, compare previous and current findings, and identify patterns that may have been overlooked.

Two Targeted Functional Tests

Your provider will help select two functional tests based on your symptoms, history, previous results, medications, goals, and clinical needs.

Testing options may include:

  • GI-MAP for chronic digestive and gastrointestinal concerns

  • DUTCH testing for hormone-related concerns

  • IgG food-reactivity with histamine-clearance testing

  • Mycotoxin testing for known or suspected mold exposure

  • Environmental toxin testing

  • Organic Acids Testing

  • Conventional or specialty bloodwork

The IgG food-reactivity and histamine-clearance panels are completed together and count as one functional test.

Your two tests are selected strategically. The goal is not simply to order more testing—it is to choose the combination most likely to provide useful information about your interconnected concerns.

Possible combinations may include:

  • GI-MAP with DUTCH hormone testing

  • GI-MAP with IgG food-reactivity and histamine-clearance testing

  • GI-MAP with Organic Acids Testing

  • Mycotoxin testing with Organic Acids Testing

  • Mycotoxin testing with environmental toxin testing

  • DUTCH hormone testing with metabolic or specialty bloodwork

Not every testing combination is appropriate for every individual. Your provider will help determine which options are most relevant for you.

Dedicated Test-Review and Planning Session

Once both test results are available, you will have a dedicated one-on-one appointment with your provider to review them in detail.

This is a complete test-review session—not simply a written interpretation or copies of your laboratory reports.

During this session, we will discuss:

  • What each test evaluated

  • What was identified in your results

  • Which findings appear most relevant

  • Patterns that may be present across both tests

  • How findings from one area may affect another

  • How your results may relate to your symptoms and health history

  • How your new results compare with previous laboratory findings

  • What we recommend prioritizing first

  • Whether additional testing or medical evaluation should be considered

  • What your personalized plan will look like

You will have time to ask questions and understand the reasoning behind your recommendations. By the end of the session, you will have a clear, prioritized plan for moving forward.

Personalized Functional Health Plan

Following your test-review session, you will receive an individualized health plan based on your results, symptoms, history, and goals.

Your personalized recommendations may include:

  • Nutrition and meal guidance

  • Digestive and gastrointestinal support

  • Hormone and menstrual-cycle support

  • Blood-sugar and metabolic support

  • Environmental exposure-reduction strategies

  • Lifestyle and sleep support

  • Stress and nervous-system regulation

  • Personalized supplement recommendations

  • Immune and inflammatory support

  • Referrals or coordination with other healthcare providers when appropriate

Recommendations are introduced in a thoughtful and manageable order. We will establish priorities so you are not expected to change everything at once.

Four Additional Follow-Up Appointments

When several areas of health are involved, recommendations may need to be introduced in phases. Your response to the first phase helps guide what we do next.

In addition to your dedicated test-review session, this package includes four follow-up appointments.

Your follow-up appointments allow us to:

  • Evaluate your response to the plan

  • Review changes in your symptoms

  • Address questions, challenges, or reactions

  • Adjust nutrition, lifestyle, or supplement recommendations

  • Introduce the next phase of your plan when appropriate

  • Reevaluate priorities as your health changes

  • Determine whether additional testing or referrals are needed

  • Develop an appropriate long-term health strategy

Complex Functional Health Package

For chronic, complicated, or unexplained health concerns

The Complex Functional Health Package is our most comprehensive level of functional care. It is designed for individuals with chronic symptoms involving several areas of the body, especially when previous evaluations have not provided a complete explanation.

You may have been told that your results are “normal,” even though you continue to feel unwell. You may have seen several providers, received different diagnoses, or tried multiple treatments without lasting improvement.

You may also have a known autoimmune condition, a history of mold or environmental exposure, chronic gastrointestinal problems, hormone concerns, persistent fatigue, neurological symptoms, inflammation, or several symptoms that do not appear to fit neatly into one category.

This package gives us the ability to investigate multiple areas of your health while considering how your findings may be connected.

This Package May Be Right for You If:

  • You have chronic or unexplained symptoms involving multiple body systems

  • You have been trying to find answers for months or years

  • You have seen several providers but still do not understand why you feel unwell

  • Your conventional laboratory results have been described as normal despite persistent symptoms

  • You have an autoimmune condition or elevated autoimmune markers

  • You have Hashimoto’s or other autoimmune-related concerns

  • You have known or suspected mold exposure

  • You have concerns about environmental toxins

  • You experience chronic digestive symptoms, food reactions, or histamine-related concerns

  • You experience persistent fatigue, brain fog, headaches, inflammation, or joint discomfort

  • You have digestive, hormonal, immune, neurological, and metabolic symptoms occurring together

  • You have tried multiple diets, supplements, medications, or protocols without lasting improvement

  • You have completed previous testing but need someone to review the findings together

  • You need a broader testing strategy and continued support

  • You want a comprehensive, prioritized plan rather than another isolated recommendation

What’s Included

Comprehensive Initial Consultation

Your care begins with an in-depth, one-on-one consultation. We take time to understand the full history of your health concerns rather than looking at each symptom separately.

During your initial consultation, we will review:

  • Your current symptoms and primary concerns

  • When each symptom began and how it has changed

  • The timeline of your health

  • Major illnesses, infections, injuries, pregnancies, surgeries, or stressful events

  • Known or suspected mold and environmental exposures

  • Digestive, hormonal, immune, metabolic, and neurological symptoms

  • Autoimmune diagnoses and previous autoimmune markers

  • Medical and family history

  • Nutrition, sleep, stress, movement, and lifestyle

  • Current medications and supplements

  • Previously completed bloodwork and functional testing

  • Treatments, diets, supplements, medications, or protocols you have already tried

  • What has helped, what has not helped, and what may have caused reactions

  • Your short- and long-term health goals

Please provide copies of your previous laboratory results before your consultation whenever possible.

We will review your previous bloodwork, functional testing, imaging reports, and other relevant records to help identify patterns, avoid unnecessary duplication, and determine what information is still missing.

Three Targeted Functional Tests

Your provider will help select three functional tests based on your symptoms, diagnoses, exposure history, previous results, medications, goals, and clinical needs.

Testing options may include:

  • GI-MAP for chronic digestive and gastrointestinal concerns

  • DUTCH testing for hormone and adrenal-related concerns

  • IgG food-reactivity with histamine-clearance testing

  • Mycotoxin testing for known or suspected mold exposure

  • Environmental toxin testing

  • Organic Acids Testing

  • Conventional or specialty bloodwork

Testing combinations may example:

  • GI-MAP, Mycotoxin Testing, and Organic Acids Testing

  • GI-MAP, DUTCH Hormone Testing, and IgG with Histamine Clearance

  • GI-MAP, Mycotoxin Testing, and Environmental Toxin Testing

  • GI-MAP, Organic Acids Testing, and specialty bloodwork

  • Mycotoxin Testing, Environmental Toxin Testing, and Organic Acids Testing

  • DUTCH Hormone Testing, GI-MAP, and specialty bloodwork

Not every testing combination is appropriate for every person. Your provider will determine which options are most relevant after reviewing your complete history and previous results.

Dedicated Test-Review and Planning Session

Once your test results are available, you will have a dedicated one-on-one appointment with your provider to review all three tests in detail.

This is a complete test-review and planning session

During this appointment, we will discuss:

  • What each test evaluated

  • What was identified in your results

  • Which findings appear most relevant

  • Patterns that may be present across multiple tests

  • How findings from different body systems may be connected

  • How your results may relate to your symptoms and health history

  • How your new findings compare with previous laboratory results

  • Which areas should be addressed first

  • Which findings may be secondary priorities

  • Whether additional medical evaluation, testing, or referrals should be considered

  • What your personalized plan will look like

Complex results can be overwhelming when they are presented without context. Your provider will organize the findings into clear priorities so you understand where to begin and why.

You will have time to ask questions and understand the reasoning behind your recommendations.

Personalized, Prioritized Functional Health Plan

Following your test-review session, you will receive an individualized plan based on your results, symptoms, diagnoses, previous treatments, tolerance, and goals.

Your personalized recommendations may include:

  • Nutrition and meal guidance

  • Digestive and gastrointestinal support

  • Strategies to support a healthy intestinal environment

  • Immune and inflammatory support

  • Hormone and menstrual-cycle support

  • Blood-sugar and metabolic support

  • Nutrient-repletion strategies

  • Environmental exposure-reduction strategies

  • Mold-related environmental recommendations

  • Lifestyle and sleep support

  • Stress and nervous-system regulation

  • Personalized supplement recommendations

  • Referrals or coordination with physicians and specialists when appropriate

Your recommendations will be organized into manageable phases. Complex health concerns generally cannot—and should not—be addressed all at once.

We will begin with the areas that appear most foundational and adjust the plan based on your response.

Four Additional Follow-Up Appointments

When health concerns are chronic and involve several body systems, continued support is especially important.

In addition to your dedicated test-review session, this package includes four follow-up appointments.

Your follow-up appointments allow us to:

  • Evaluate your response to each phase of the plan

  • Review changes in symptoms and overall function

  • Address questions, challenges, or reactions

  • Adjust nutrition, lifestyle, and supplement recommendations

  • Slow down or modify the plan when necessary

  • Introduce the next phase when your body is ready

  • Reevaluate priorities as your health changes

  • Determine whether additional testing or referrals are needed

  • Develop an appropriate long-term health strategy

Six One-on-One Appointments

The Complex Functional Health Package includes:

  1. Comprehensive initial consultation

  2. Dedicated review of all three tests and personalized planning session

  3. First follow-up appointment

  4. Second follow-up appointment

  5. Third follow-up appointment

  6. Fourth follow-up appointment
