Why Blood Testing?
Blood tests provide crucial insights into our state of health, making them the most commonly ordered medical lab tests worldwide. These tests are essential in Western clinical medicine, aiding in diagnostic decision-making. Patients are often familiar with and educated on the importance of blood testing in health assessments.
However, many people experience symptoms of illness long before traditional blood tests indicate any abnormalities. Often, patients are told by their physicians that "everything on your blood test looks normal," despite feeling unwell.
Normal is Not Optimal
Patients who feel unwell frequently receive "normal" results from standard blood tests. However, clinical experience suggests that these individuals are far from being in an optimal state of health. While they may not yet have developed a diagnosable disease, their physiological systems may be underperforming, leading to a state we refer to as "dys-functional."
The challenge lies not in the blood test itself but in the reference ranges used by traditional labs. These ranges are statistically derived and do not necessarily reflect what is optimal for good health. "Normal" ranges typically represent average populations, which may not align with the optimal levels required to maintain good health. Consequently, these broad "normal" ranges often fail to detect emerging health issues before they progress into more severe conditions.
The Functional Approach
Our functional approach to blood chemistry and CBC analysis focuses on changes in physiology rather than pathology. We use reference ranges based on optimal physiology, not the "normal" population. This approach results in a tighter "Functional Physiological Range," enabling us to detect subtle changes within the "normal" range that may indicate underlying issues.
What sets our Functional Blood Chemistry Analysis apart from traditional methods is our comprehensive approach. We don't just look at individual biomarkers in isolation. Instead, we analyze trends and relationships between biomarkers to uncover hidden patterns that may signal a shift away from optimal health.
The Functional Health Report
The Functional Health Report is generated through a detailed algorithmic analysis of your blood test results. This software interprets the data to reveal subtle, web-like patterns that indicate the first stages of functional changes in your body.
Blood testing is no longer just about diagnosing disease or managing injury. It's an integral part of a comprehensive Functional Medicine workup, crucial for uncovering hidden health trends, promoting overall health, and preventing disease.
